September 27, 2007 -- The Appeals Chamber of the UN war crimes tribunal has upheld the acquittal of two former Kosovo rebel commanders on charges of murder and torture.
The court rejected appeals by the prosecution against the 2005 acquittals of Fatmir Limaj and Isak Musliu, who were accused of murder, torture, and inhumane acts against Serbs and ethnic Albanians suspected of collaborating with Serbian authorities during the 1998-1999 conflict in Kosovo.
The court upheld the 13-year prison sentence of a third man, Haradin Bala, convicted of executing prisoners in a wartime camp in Kosovo.
