Air Strike 'Kills 16 Foreign Fighters' In Afghanistan

October 7, 2007 -- Police in eastern Afghanistan say 16 foreign militants have been killed in an air strike.

Paktika provincial deputy police chief Farouq Sangari said the strike was carried out by international military planes called in by Afghan security forces.

He said six other militants were captured following the October 6 fighting, among them one national from Uzbekistan.

He said the Uzbek prisoner told authorities all the fighters killed were from Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Chechnya.

The identities of the killed militants have not been independently confirmed.
