Walesa Says West "Sleeping" Over Polish NATO, EU Entry

Warsaw, March 8 (RFE/RL) - Former Polish President Lech Walesa says the West has been "sleeping" over chances to speed up Poland's entry into NATO and the European Union.

Walesa says that was the message he gave in lectures he delivered during a just-ended tour of Denmark and Sweden. He returned to his Polish home port of Gdansk last night.

Walesa delivered the lectures to raise money for his political think tank.

He was in Copenhagen at the invitation of the city's stock exchange club. Yesterday, he was in Stockholm to speak on transition in Europe to politicians, businessmen and journalists at a club run by a leading Swedish daily, Svenska Dagbladet.

Walesa plans a two-week lecture tour of the United States next month.
