13 Top Russian Bankers Appeal For Compromise Ahead of June Election

Moscow, April 26 (RFE/RL) - Thirteen top Russian bankers and businessmen today called on Russian authorities, as well as on the army and media, to find a political compromise ahead of June's presidential elections.

In an appeal distributed by the Interfax news agency, they said a compromise could prevent possible "sharp conflicts, threatening Russia's main interests."

Among those who signed the statement are the chairmen of the Logovaz group that finances Russia's ORT television channel (Boris Berezovsky), of one of the most important Russian oil companies (Yukos' Sergei Muravlenko), of the private Oneximbank, (Oleg Potanin) and other influential figures.
