Moscow, July 1 (RFE/RL) -- New Russian Security Council Secretary Alexander Lebed today chaired a special meeting on crime and corruption in Moscow.

Our correspondent quotes Moscow police departement officials as saying the meeting was attended by acting Director of the Federal security service (FSB) Nikolay Kovalyev, Deputy Interior Minister Valery Petrov and Moscow city Mayor Yuri Luzhkov.

The agenda of the meeting was not disclosed.

Last week Lebed said he was determined to crush corrupted officials in the Russian capital. He had been quoted as saying that "we will see who is tougher, the Moscow police or the criminals." Moscow mayor Luzhkov said he would cooperate with Lebed in the fight against criminals.
