Moscow, July 12 (RFE/RL) -- Russian President Boris Yeltsin says he will take under his personal control the fight against terrorism.
Yeltsin told a meeting of senior officials of the Federal Security Service (FBS) in the Kremlin today that tough action must be taken against terrorism in the Russian capital. He was speaking hours after a second bomb attack on a Moscow trolley-bus in two days.
Russian news agencies quoted Yeltsin as saying that Moscow is "infested with terrorists."
Yeltsin said he had just signed an anti-terrorism decree, but he gave no details.
Yeltsin also presented the FBS officials their new head, Nikolai Kovalyov, whom he appointed this week to take over from Mikhail Barsukov. Barsukov was sacked last month.
