Vladivostok, July 18 (RFE/RL) -- The main energy supplier in Russia's far East says fuel-short electric power stations in the Primorsky region received diesel fuel today.
The Itar-Tass news agency quotes spokesman Yevgeny Monakov of the Dalenergo power company as saying the fuel deliveries should be enough for the region's priority facilities to function for one week.
Monakov says the Pacific fleet supplied 1,500 tons of diesel fuel to two power stations while the Angorsk oil refinery is delivering 1,500 tons to the Primorskaya power station.
Power stations in the region are producing 800 megawatts of electric power daily, well under the daily demand of 1,200 megawatts.
The energy shortage in Russia's Far East trapped 100 miners underground for one hour earlier today without ventilation or electricity because a warning about the planned blackout came too late. Electricity was briefly restored to bring the men to the surface.
Power cuts in the Primorsky region began last week, with many homes and factories deprived of electricity for as long as 16 hours a day.
