Yeltsin Discusses Cabinet, Chechnya, Strikes with Chernomyrdin

Moscow, July 30 (RFE/RL) -- Russian President Boris Yeltsin talked with Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin today about the structure of his new government, Chechnya, and other issues

The two leaders discussed the situation in Chechnya at length, the presidential press service told Itar-tass.

Yeltsin and Chernomyrdin also looked at ways to end the crisis in the Far East, where more than 10,000 miners are striking over unpaid wages.

The two men met a sanitorium outside Moscow, where Yeltsin is having what his press service calls "a working vacation." Earlier, Reuters news agency quoted a Yeltsin press service spokesman as saying the president's health was "all right."

The new government will be named after parliament confirms Chernomyrdin as prime minister, which is likely to follow Yeltsin's inauguration for a second term as president on August 9.
