Grozny, July 31 (RFE/RL) -- Reports from Chechnya say Russian forces continued military operations in the southern part of the breakaway republic early today. Anatoly Taranov, interior minister of the pro-Moscow Chechen government, told Itar-tass that Russian forces carried out dawn attacks against Chechen separatist forces around Shatoi and Vedeno.
Meanwhile, Doku Zavgayev, head of the pro-Moscow Chechen government, today met with about 90 Chechens living in Moscow. He called on them to support his government, and claimed the war in Chechnya is virtually over.
Earlier, the press center of Russian federal forces said six soldiers were killed and 12 injured in fighting since yesterday. There was no word about Chechen casualties.
