Almaty, 12 September 1996 (RFE/RL) - A new foundation to aid historic research and social studies was formed in Kazakhstan this week.
It is called the Baba Turkti Shashti Aziz Foundation. Baba Turkti Shashti Aziz' Holy Mausoleum is situated in Shymkent Oblast of Southern Kazakhstan. Aziz the Holy is known as a great ancestor of several groups, including: Karakalpaks, Nogays, Tatars, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz and Bashkorts.
The prominent Kazakh scientist Rahmankul Berdibay was named president of the Foundation.
