Prague, 28 January 1997 (RFE/RL) - The Kyrgyz state energy agency says no agreement on energy supplies will be signed between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan for 1997. The reason for this, according to the Agency, is that the majority of Kazakh coal mining enterprises have been bought out by foreigners and now want to sell their coal at international prices.

Some 97 percent of imported coal in Kyrgyzstan comes from Kazakhstan. Our correspondent from Bishkek reports Agency officials say Kyrgyzstan may in turn have to increase the price ot hydro-electric power it exports to Kazakhstan.

Kyrgyz To Show His Yourta-Building Skills In U.S.



Meken Osmonaliev, a resident of the Kyrgyz region of Issyk-Kul, will demonstrate in the United States his skills in building yourtas (ancient nomads' tents). Osdmonaliev, who left over the weekend for the United States at the invitation of the San Diego People's Art Museum, will show how to build and dismantle yourtas in 24 U.S. states.
