Warsaw, 17 March 1997 (RFE/RL) - Ukraine's Prime Minister Pavlo Lazarenko today opened a two-day visit to Poland.
Our Warsaw correspondent reports bi-lateral cooperation is at the top of the agenda for Lararenko's talks with Prime Minister Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz and leaders of Parliament. Lazarenko meets President Aleksandr Kwasniewski tomorrow.
Polish media today note Ukraine's severe economic problems, but also note Warsaw's stated determination to improve relations with Kyiv in many fields, including political, trade and economic cooperation. Another top issue of mutual concern is European security.
Lazarenko will be participating in a meeting of a joint economic, cooperation-and-trade commission. He also meets Polish business leaders, and a delegation of ethnic Ukrainians.
