Romania: Ministers Campaign For Foreign Investment

Washington, 25 March 1997 (RFE/RL) - Romanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Reform, Ulm Nicolae Spineau, is in Washington to continue the country's new push to attract foreign investment.

The Romanian embassy says that following a successful investment conference in Bucharest last week, Spineau will participate in an Invest Romania conference in the U.S. capital.

In addition, he will hold meetings with leading business people at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, officials of the World Bank's private sector affiliate, the International Finance Corporation, and with a number of investment funds and major industrial giants. These include Westinghouse, Tenneco, McDonnel Douglas and Saba Petroleum.

At the same time, Romania's Minister of Communications Sorin Pantis is in Washington for an eight-day conference at the U.S. Telecommunications Training Institute. At those sessions, Pantis is meeting with telecommuniucations industry representatives from the United States, as well as American government officials, to discuss cooperation and possible telecom partnerships with a number of developing nations, including Romania.
