Iraq: Baghdad Denounces Iran-Kuwait Border Talks

Baghdad, 28 July 2000 (RFE/RL) - Iraq said today it would not recognize any deal reached between Iran and Kuwait over their maritime border. The two countries announced earlier this week that they will resume talks in September to resolve a territorial dispute over the area, which is rich in oil and natural gas. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry issued a statement today saying it will not recognize any deal that does not take into consideration its own claims to parts of the area.
