Pristina, 23 November (RFE/RL) - Assailants shot and killed Xhemajl Mustafa, a senior political adviser to Kosovar Albanian leader Ibrahim Rugova, today in Pristina. UN police spokesman Charley Johnson said the shooting occurred in a stairwell of the Pristina apartment block where Mustafa lived. He said Mustafa's wife, who was with the victim, went to a hospital in shock or possibly with a heart attack.
Dpa quotes eyewitnesses as saying two assailants shot Mustafa in the head three times and fled.
Mustafa was a prominent member of Rugova's Democratic League of Kosovo. There has been a series of at least three deadly assaults on Democratic League members since the group dominated Kosovo municipal elections last month.
