Baghdad, 14 July 2003 (RFE/RL) -- One U.S. soldier in Iraq was killed and six were wounded today when insurgents fired rocket-propelled grenades at a military convoy in Baghdad. Military spokesmen said the soldiers were with the 3rd Infantry Division, which is charged with patrolling Baghdad, and the attack happened in the al-Mansur area of the capital.
In a separate attack a few hours later, news agencies quote witnesses as saying that at least one U.S. soldier was badly wounded near Baghdad airport, when his military vehicle was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.
More than 30 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since U.S. President George W. Bush declared major combat over on 1 May.
