With the seventh anniversary of 9/11 looming, our Russian Service asked Russians whether they thought "Russia and the United States are partners in the fight against terrorism."
Here are a few of their responses:
"No, I don't think so. I don't trust the States. I'm a patriot of my own country and I'm sure it does more to fight terrorism than the U.S. If we take Afghanistan, for example, what have they been doing there all this time? They've lost the trust of others."
"I think that Russia and America are worthy partners in this fight, and they can defeat terrorism. Because there are people in both countries who understand that terrorism is a danger to the lives of children and old people, all people.... As for what the Russian and American media are saying, it's foolish to trust them. You must be guided by human principles."
"It seems to me that these two countries, Russia and America, can never be allies because they follow different courses of development."
"I think that Russia and the U.S. can be allies, especially if Barack Obama wins the coming elections. He is very much interested in this and I think that Medvedev will support him."
"I don't consider them allies. The USA arranged terrorist acts at home in order to make their country look better in this situation and look like a victim."
It's certainly a far cry from initial Russian reaction to the tragedy.
