Bogelme Bombing Case To Get Jury Trial
The case of the Hizb ut-Tahrir members accused of bombing the Bogelme gas pipeline on 8 January will be considered by Tatarstan's Supreme Court with a jury, RFE/RL's Kazan bureau reported on 25 July. The local branch of the Federal Security Service has accused Tatarstan residents Timur Ishmoratov, Fenis Sheikhetdinov, and Rawil Gumarov of bombing the pipeline as retaliation for the arrests of Hizb ut-Tahrir activists in the Aznaqay region, Elmet, and Chally. It was Gumarov's request to have a jury hear the case. Gumarov and Sheikhetdinov were held at the U.S. base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, after being arrested in Afghanistan.
Tatarstan Implemented Monetization Reform
Tatarstan was one of the 21 regions in Russia that managed to implement the federal monetization reform and convert the system of social benefits for the poor into personal monetary subsidies, "Vedomosti" reported on 25 July. However, the daily admitted that only eight of Russia's 89 regions managed to accomplish the monetization in full.
