Government to Push Bread Prices Down
A government meeting chaired by President Mintimer Shaimiev on 27 August agreed on that the bread prices could be lowered in Tatarstan by 10-12%, RFE/RL's Kazan Bureau reported. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture Marat Akhmetov told the government that some 80% of harvest had already been gathered in the republic, giving over 4 million tons of grain. Shaimiev told PM Rustam Minnikhanov to take measures for preventing the growth of bread prices.
Tatneft Warned for Failing to Fulfill Output Plan
Tatneft oil company is among the Russian oil and gas companies that may be deprived of their licenses for mineral resources extraction, "Kommersant-Daily" reported on 27 August. According to the daily, the list of companies facing such a risk was composed according to the planned output previously declared by the companies and their actual extraction figures. Also on the list are almost all Russian major oil companies YUKOS, LUKoil, TNK, Slavneft and the branches of Gazprom.
Tatneft Gains a Partner for Running Zenith
Novolipetsky Metallurgical Plant [NMP] bought 20% of shares in Tatneft-controlled Zenith Bank, "Vremya Novostei" reported on 27 August. Tatneft reportedly retained its controlling package of shares in Zenith, but the bank's general director Alexey Sokolov called NMP "a strategic investor."
KamAZ Praised for Achievements
KamAZ made a convincing presentation of its trucks at the Moscow Automotive Fair on 25 August, strana.ru reported. According to the website, KamAZ proved that modern Russian heavy trucks correspond to European ecological standards, thus attracting the attention of domestic cargo transporters, which in the recent past had had to buy imported vehicles for operations in Europe.
Moscow Tatars Maintain Ties with Tatarstan
Youthful members of the Moscow Tatar Community who participate in the virtual Tatar Club www.vtclub.ru visited Kazan to meet with Tatar young people, tatar.ru reported on 27 August. The visitors received new Latin script publications to take back to the Russian capital.

Rakhimov Praises Bashkorotstan's Medicare System...
President Murtaza Rakhimov on 27 August said that Bashkortostan had succeeded in improving the organization of medical services in rural areas, the presidential press service reported. Rakhimov added that a number of high-tech medicine centers had been created in the republic, allowing the local residents to receive different types of medication without leaving Bashkortostan.

Prime Minister Rafael Baydavletov on 27 August said that prosecutors must work to fight corruption in medical institutions, particularly the at the hospitals in Ufa.
More than 60 Percent of Crop Harvested So Far
Bashkortostan's farmers already have gathered 62% of the amount of planned grain amount this year, Ministry of Agriculture announced on 27 August.
Transmitters for Satellite-Based Bashkir TV Built in Salavat and Boray
Bashkortostan's Satellite Communications Company performed test broadcasts from its new TV transmitters in Salavat city and Boray village on 27 August, the Bashkir press reported. The transmitters are to rebroadcast the Bashkortostan's television programs sent from satellite by late 2002.
