Tatarstan Residents Shocked By Terror Attacks Against America
Kazan residents interviewed by Tatarstan State TV on 11 September expressed their condolences and sympathy to the American people after reports on terrorist attacks against the US. Some of those polled stated their shock and disbelief, while others said that they felt like the end of the world was approaching.
Shaimiev Criticizes Russian Federation Council...
President Mintimer Shaimiev told Interfax on 11 September that he considered the new principle of forming the Russian Federation Council "to be most imperfect and primitive." He said that this system didn't follow "the principle of electing all levels of regional authorities" and thus failed to show the presence of essential features of democracy. Shaimiev claimed that the present Federation Council "would not contribute much to the formation of federal state and as result, wouldn't exist long in its present shape."
...Plans To Join Talks on Russian Aircraft Producers
Shaimiev is expected to meet with Putin and leaders of the Russian aircraft industry, officials announced on 12 September.
HIV Infections up 400 Times since 1996
According to Tatarstan's Health Ministry on 11 September, the number of HIV infected cases increased 400 times since 1996. There are now 3104 patients with this virus in the republic. The Russian Federation-wide increase over that period was less than half as great.
Bangladesh Interested With Cooperation With Tatneft, KamAZ, Tatenergo
Tatarstan's Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Cooperation Khafiz Salikhov met the Ambassador of Bangladesh Republic to Russia Shardzhyl Khasan on 11 September to discuss a joint venture for transportation and processing of oil.
Energy Producers Gather in Kazan
A Russian national symposium of energy industries, involving guest delegations from Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, USA, Canada, China, Poland, Turkey and Macedonia began in Kazan on 11 September, Tatarinform reported.
Doctor Invents Disease to Make Himself Rich
The Kazan militia detained a 64 years old doctor who had cheated over 3000 patients by selling them homemade medication against a non-existent disease that he himself had invented, "Trud" reported on 11 September.

Bashkir Daily Condemns Terrorism Against US
"Respublika Bashkortostan" condemned the series of terrorist acts in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania on 11 September but added that it "would be premature to exactly name the organizers of this terror" and that international terrorism of this kind was extremely hard to avert.
Bashkortostan's Budget Revenues Reported
Deputy PM, Finance Minister Foat Khantimerov said on 11 September that Bashkortostan's budget revenues totaled 33.5 billion rubles ($1.14 billion) during the 8 months of 2001, 16.2 billion rubles of which were already transferred to federal budget. He praised the tax collection bodies for efficient work, which enabled bigger budget revenues comparing to the previous years. The republic's legislature will go on session on 14 September for deliberations on amendments to republican budget of 2001, AROMI reported.
Chinese Delegation To Visit Ufa
A governmental delegation from China's Heyluntzyan province is due to visit Ufa on 13-14 September to discuss cooperation with Bashkortostan�s oil and marble producers, Bashinform reported.
Wage Arrears Cut by 20 Percent
State Statistics Committee chairman Akram Ganiyev said on 11 September that wage arrears in the republic have fallen 20 percent this year but still amount to 709 million rubles ($24 million).
