Mass Protests In Iran Turn Deadly

Hundreds of thousands of people protested in Tehran on June 15 against what many are calling a stolen election.

Supporters of the main opposition candidate, Mir Hossein Musavi, gathered in Tehran's Azadi Square.

Musavi addressed the protesters, who gathered in defiance of a ban on mass rallies. - "The vote of the people is more important than Musavi or any other person," Musavi told the demonstrators.

The demonstration turned violent as protesters clashed with members of the Basij militia. - There were conflicting reports on how the violence erupted. Some said protesters attacked a building housing members of the pro-government militia, while others said militiamen made the first strike and opened fire.

Iranian media reported that seven people were killed in the clashes. This demonstrator suffered a gunshot wound.
