Turkmens celebrate the Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bairam) holiday in Ashgabat on November 17. Muslims across the world celebrate the annual festival of Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of the Sacrifice, following the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. It commemorates the willingness of biblical patriarch Abraham to sacrifice his son Ismail and during the period Muslims distribute food to the poor.
