Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev has been quoted as saying that NATO must ensure that Russia is fully involved in the trans-Atlantic alliance's plans for missile defense or risk triggering a new arms race.
Medvedev made the statement in an interview published in the Polish weekly "Wprost" to coincide with his two-day visit to Poland.
Last month, NATO and Moscow agreed to cooperate on missile defense and other security issues in what they hailed as a "historic step" in setting aside past disputes.
Medvedev said in the interview that a missile shield "should be a joint initiative of Russia and NATO that can protect us against threats."
