Soccer Fans Riot In Moscow

Soccer fans came to attend a memorial for Spartak Moscow fan Yegor Sviridov at the site of his stabbing on December 11.

Sviridov, a member of a radical Spartak fan group, was reportedly shot during an interracial brawl.

The rally in Moscow's Manezh Square drew some 5,000 demonstrators.

Some say the violence has exposed close links between extremists and soccer-club supporters.

It was an embarrassment for Russia less than two weeks after it won the right to host the FIFA World Cup in 2018.

Russia's president said rioters who committed violence against other people in Moscow must be punished.

Riot police clash with fans.

At least 30 people were reported to have been injured.

Men who appeared to come from the Caucasus were beaten up by protesting fans.

Russia's president said on his Twitter page that "we will deal with everyone who defiled things. Everyone. You can be certain of that."
