Iraq's parliament has lifted a ban that blocked three Sunni Muslim politicians from running in the country's March elections over allegations they had ties to the outlawed Baath Party.

The most prominent of the three politicians is Saleh al-Mutlaq, a vocal critic of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

Al-Mutlaq is now expected to join the new Iraqi government.

A spokesman for the prime minister said the new government will be announced on December 20.
