Official: U.S. "Ready" To Tackle Iran

U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen warns that the U.S. is ready to counter Iran's nuclear threat.

The United States top military officer has said Iran is trying to build a nuclear bomb and warned that Washington is "very ready" to counter what he called the Islamic republic's threats to "peace and stability."

Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff was speaking during a visit to Bahrain, which lies across the Gulf from Iran.

Several Gulf states have expressed concerns to the U.S. about Iran's nuclear program, according to diplomatic cables recently released by Wikileaks.

Tehran has denied it is building a bomb and insists its uranium enrichment work is solely for peaceful civilian energy purposes.
