Iran's military has marked Defense Industry Day by unveiling upgraded versions of several weapons, including what officials say is an improved short-range surface-to-surface missile.

The state-run Islamic Republic News Agency reported that the new version of the Fateh-110 missile, with a range of some 300 kilometers, has a quicker launch capability and could operate in adverse weather conditions.

Also shown at the ceremony in Tehran on August 21 was the Bonyan-4 engine for naval vessels.

President Mahmud Ahmadinejad was on hand to display new mortar launchers, tactical sport utility vehicles and other equipment.

Iranian claims about the capabilities of the country's weapons are impossible to independently verify since the government usually does not release technical details of its arms and equipment.
