Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang says Beijing wants to build up mutual trust and cooperation with India.
He was quoted as making the remark as he met on May 20 in New Delhi with his Indian counterpart, Manmohan Singh.
Li said "world peace" cannot become reality without “strategic cooperation” between the world’s two most populous nations.
It is the Chinese premier’s first foreign trip since he took office in March.
The visit follows recent elevated tensions between India and China over their decades-old border dispute in the Himalayas.
India accused Chinese troops of moving into territory claimed by India, triggering a standoff that lasted for three weeks before troops from both sides pulled back.
India-Chinese ties are also complicated by Chinese weapons supplies to Pakistan, India's chief rival.
