Thousands of protesters marched in Moscow on June 12, calling for Russian President Vladimir Putin's resignation and the release of activists facing long jail terms over violence at a rally on the eve of his inauguration to a third term last year. Some 10,000 protesters chanted "Russia without Putin!" and "Freedom for political prisoners" under a heavy police presence while Putin doled out awards at a lavish ceremony. (Reuters)
