Azerbaijani scholar Khalida Khalid spent nearly three weeks in Iranian custody after she and her driver were detained in May at the home of an ethnic Azeri activist. The two Azerbaijani nationals were released on May 19 with the help of Azerbaijani officials in Iran. In an interview with RFE/RL's Azerbaijani Service, Khalida said that she had never imagined that she could be imprisoned in a country she considers friendly to her own.
