Pakistani Lawmakers Elect Mamnoon Hussain As President

Mamnoon Hussain, a veteran Pakistani politician and ally of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, was elected president in a vote by legislators for the largely ceremonial post of head of state. Chief election commissioner Fakhruddin Ibrahim announced Hussain's victory in Islamabad. Hussain is due to be sworn in on September 9. (Reuters)
