Syrian Government Denies Attack On Assad's Motorcade
Syria's information minister has denied reports by the opposition that President Bashar al-Assad's motorcade was hit by rebel rocket fire as he was on his way to a mosque in Damascus.
The Tahrir al-Sham rebel brigade, a unit of the Free Syrian Army, said in a statement on August 8 that Assad's motorcade "was hit with artillery."
Other activists also reported rockets were fired into the Malki district of Damascus, which was sealed off by security forces.
But Information Minister Omran Zoabi said "the news is wholly untrue," and state television showed what it described as a video of Assad praying at the Anas bin Malek Mosque in Malki.
A member of the opposition, Wahid Sagar, told Al Arabiya television that Assad might have been in a different convoy to the one which came under attack.
