Damascus residents gathered outside the U.S. Embassy on September 1 to protest against any possible military intervention in Syria by the United States. Protesters chanted slogans and waved pictures of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. In a separate demonstration, Assad supporters began a campaign to organize human shields at sites considered to be potential targets for U.S. strikes. The activists gathered at Mount Qassioun overlooking Damascus to launch the campaign, called "Over our bodies." (CCTV and Reuters video)
