Belarusian activist Alyaksandr Frantskevich was released from prison on September 3 after serving three years for allegedly carrying out attacks on state institutions. Frantskevich's mother met him outside the prison. Frantskevich, 23, and two co-defendants were found guilty of a series of firebomb attacks on establishments, including the Russian Embassy, in Minsk in 2009 and 2010. The defendants, who are anarchist activists, considered the cases against them to be politically motivated. Following his release, Frantskevich will be placed under "preventive police supervision."
