UN Nuclear Agency Chief Welcomes Iran's Cooperation

The head of the UN's nuclear watchdog says he welcomes Iran's cooperation with his agency to answer questions about its nuclear program.

But Yukiya Amano, who heads the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said on June 2 that all doubts have yet to be lifted about Iran's past nuclear activities.

In a report last month, Amano revealed that Iran for the first time in six years had addressed matters related to bomb-making.

But he said the IAEA is still not in a position to conclude that "all nuclear material in Iran is in peaceful activities."

The international community wants Iran to answer all questions about its nuclear activities amid suspicions some have a military purpose.

Iran insists the aims of its program are purely peaceful.
