The daughter of prominent Soviet poet and playwright Vladimir Mayakovsky has died in New York at the age of 89.
The director of the Mayakovsky State Museum in Moscow, Aleksei Lobov, said on April 4 that Patricia Thompson, also known as Yelena Mayakovskaya, passed away on April 1.
Thompson, who was a professor of philosophy at the Lehman College of the University of New York City, had authored more than 20 books.
Thompson's mother, American translator Elizabeth Siebert, met Mayakovsky during his trip to New York in 1925.
Thompson was born on June 15, 1926. Mayakovsky met his daughter only once in 1928 in Nice, France, when she was a toddler.
Mayakovsky was a fierce supporter of the Communist Party but he became increasingly critical of Soviet authorities' censorship of literature.
Mayakovsky committed suicide in 1930 at the age of 36.
