Afghan Governor, His Son, Bodyguard Killed In Car Bombing

The governor of the Arghandab district of Afghanistan's southern Kandahar Province, Haji Abdul Jabar, has been killed together with his son and his bodyguard in a roadside attack.

Abdul Jabar was on his way home when an explosives-packed vehicle parked by the side of the road was detonated by remote control.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned the attack in a statement issued by his office.

U.S. and NATO are conducting a major operation in Kandahar in an effort to displace Taliban and Al-Qaeda forces and other enemies of Afghanistan's central government.

Most of the 30,000 additional U.S. troops ordered by President Barack Obama will be deployed to Kandahar, the birthplace of the Taliban.
