Ahmadinejad Says Israel Has Hired People to Assassinate Him

Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad speaks during the Great Congress of Iranians Abroad in Tehran.

Addressing a gathering of Iranians residing abroad on August 2, Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad claimed that Israel has hired people to assassinate him.

"The Zionists have send people to assassinate me. Look how hopeless they are. They [Israelis] have assassinated so many Iranians," Ahmadinejad said.

"What happened? Today every single Iranian is a Rostam, Arash, Siyavash [heroes in Persian mythology] and a brave combatant."

In the same speech Ahmadinejad called on U.S. President Barack Obama to face him in a televised debate about how to solve the world's problems.

There has been no reaction from the Obama administration or Israel to the latest comments by the Iranian president.
