Security officials say a suicide bomber has killed more than 50 people and wounded nearly 100 others in Pakistan's tribal belt near the Afghan border.
The blast occurred in a village in Mohmand district.
The bomber detonated his explosives outside the office of the civil administrator in the village of Yaka Ghund.
A pre-teen boy named Nasim who was injured in the blast told RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal that he and five friends, along with an uncle, were at a bakery when "suddenly there was a big bang and I fell backward."
He still had not learned what happened to his uncle or friends, but was himself handed by a stranger to his father and taken to a Peshawar hospital.
Mohmand is one of several districts that make up Pakistan's tribal belt where Al-Qaeda and Taliban militants are believed to be hiding.
The Pakistan army has carried out operations against militants in Mohmand in recent years, but has been unable to clear the area.
