Austrian Diplomat Appointed As Bosnia Peace Envoy

Valentin Inzko

SARAJEVO (Reuters) -- Austrian diplomat Valentin Inzko has been appointed as new international peace overseer in Bosnia, the body overseeing the implementation of Bosnia's peace process announced.

"The ambassadors of the Steering Board of the Peace Implementation Council formally appointed Ambassador Valentin Inzko as the next High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina," the council said in a statement.

It said that Inzko would take up his duties in Sarajevo immediately after a meeting of the PIC Steering Board Political Directors on March 26.

Inzko served as the first Austrian ambassador in Bosnia after the end of the 1992-95 war. He will replace Miroslav Lajcak, who left the job last month to become Slovakia's foreign minister.
