MINSK -- The leader of the Belarusian opposition For Liberty movement is calling on the country's pro-European politicians and activists to hold a congress of pro-European forces, RFE/RL's Belarus Service reports.
Alyaksandr Milinkevich sent letters to at least 5,000 opposition politicians and activists urging them to hold the congress, where opposition groups could discuss their differences and define a common strategy for bringing Belarus closer to Europe.
He told RFE/RL that nobody except the opposition could help Belarus to consolidate and find ways to "Europeanize Belarus."
