BISHKEK -- A Bishkek district court today banned an opposition march scheduled for March 17 in the Kyrgyz capital, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.
Dariya Raimkulova, a member of the opposition Social Democratic Party, told RFE/RL that Kyrgyz opposition parties and movements still plan to assemble at the Forum Media building on March 17 and march to the Spartak Stadium near the city center, where they plan to convene a national assembly.
The Bishkek Mayor's Office offered to provide buses to transport delegates to the assembly. The opposition refused that offer, which they believe was made to prevent the march from taking place.
