The imprisoned Chinese dissident who won this year's Nobel Peace Prize has dedicated the award to those who died when Chinese forces cracked down on protesters during the 1989 pro-democracy protests in Tiananmen Square in Beijing.
The U.S.-based group Human Rights In China quoted Liu Xiaobo's wife as saying he had dedicated the prize to what he called the "lost souls" who had given their lives in the cause of peace, freedom, and democracy in China in the events of 1989.
Liu's wife, Liu Xia, was finally able to meet with her husband on October 10, two days after he was awarded the Nobel -- but reports say authorities have now placed her under indefinite house arrest in Beijing.
Liu Xiaobo is currently serving 11 years in prison for subversion of China's communist regime in connection with the 2008 release of "Charter 08," a document calling for reform in China.
