Clinton Says Wealthy Pakistanis Must Contribute To Recovery

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has urged Pakistan to ensure that wealthy Pakistanis contribute to helping the country recover after by this summer's devastating floods.

Speaking today in Brussels after a meeting with the European Union's foreign-policy chief, Catherine Ashton, Clinton said it was "absolutely unacceptable" for wealthy Pakistanis not to help fund to recovery efforts while taxpayers from other countries were contributing.

Pakistani Finance Ministry officials, citing an assessment by the Asian Development Bank and World Bank, said on October 13 that the country could face total recovery costs of $30 billion.
