MOSCOW -- The former deputy governor of Primorsky Krai in Russia's Far East has been sentenced to nine years in jail after being found guilty of bribe-taking.
RFE/RL's Russian Service reports that Aleksandr Shishkin pleaded guilty to the charges in the courtroom.
He was reportedly caught taking a large bribe from a local businessman last year.
An investigation showed that Shishkin had regularly extorted bribes from local businesses.
Shishkin is a member of the pro-presidential Unified Russia party.
