Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney had a new heart pump implanted last week after he experienced increasing congestive heart failure.
Cheney, 69, said in a statement released on July 14 that after a series of recent tests and talks with doctors he decided to "take advantage of one of the new technologies available" and have a small pump implanted that improves heart function.
Cheney has a long history of heart problems. He had a heart attack earlier this year, which marked the fifth the former vice president has had since he was 37 years old.
