What are your options if you are a 66-year-old British woman who wants to have a child?
Since fertility clinics in the U.K. refuse to treat women over 50 and the National Health Service strongly discourages such treatment for those over 40, In Vitro Fertilization would appear to be out of the question.
Elizabeth Adeney wanted a child so much that she decided to travel to Ukraine for IVF treatment. And on May 26 Adney gave birth to a 5 lb. 3 oz. (3.34 kilogram) baby boy, delivered by caesarean section, making her Britain's oldest mother.
The British press, not surprisingly, is all over the story like a cheap suit.
"It's not physical age that is important -- it's how I feel inside. Some days I feel 39. Others, I feel 56," Adney told the "Daily Telegraph."
For those with more tabloidy sensibilities, here's the "Daily Mail's" account.
