ALMATY -- The spouse of the former chief of the Kazakh uranium-producing giant KazAtomProm says she will sue the Committee of National Security (KNB) because of its treatment of her husband, RFE/RL's Kazakh Service reports.
Dzhamilya Dzhakisheva told journalists that the KNB investigators have been violating the rights of her husband, Mukhtar Dzhakishev.
She says his lawyer, Nurlan Beisekeyev, is barred from visiting her husband, which she says violates Kazakh laws.
She also expressed concern for Dzhakishev's well being, saying that harsh treatment in prison has led to a deterioration of his health.
Dzhakishev was sacked from his post and arrested in May. He and a number of his associates at KazAtomProm have been accused of corruption and financial mishandling.
His lawyers and supporters say the charges against them are politically motivated.
