Kazakhstan Deports Kyrgyz Labor Migrants En Masse

BISHKEK -- Kazakh authorities have deported some 130 Kyrgyz labor migrants, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.

Bishkek-based rights activist and former labor migrant Mirlan Satybaldiev told RFE/RL that two buses with some 130 Kyrgyz migrants crossed back into Kyrgyzstan late on October 5.

One of the deportees, Ulan Madanbekov, told RFE/RL that three more buses with Kyrgyz migrants are currently on their way to Kyrgyzstan.

Satybaldiev told RFE/RL that the Kazakh authorities have been steadily deporting Kyrgyz migrants since unrest in Bishkek in April that led to the ouster of Kyrgyzstan's President Kurmanbek Bakiev. But Satybaldiev said the October 5 deportations mark the first time that Kyrgyz migrants are being sent home in such large numbers.

Satybaldiev was deported from Kazakhstan in March.
