In a video message marking International Workers’ Day on May 1 and Iran's Teachers’ Day on May 2, opposition leader Mir Hossein Musavi has told workers and teachers that their problems and demands are no different from those of all Iranians.
"Teachers and workers should realize that the problems they face in their day-to-day life are a direct result of the general and current problems of the country," Musavi says in the video statement released on April 29.
He said Iran faces problems such as rising inflation, decreasing investment, corruption, mismanagement, unemployment, arrests of activists, the silencing of critical voices, newspapers closures, and restrictions on the activities of political and labor organizations. He said these problems affect the whole population, including teachers and workers.
Musavi added that Iran's opposition movement believes that a return to the values of the country’s constitution and the preservation of legal rights are key to solving the country's problems. The former prime minister warned the Islamic establishment that a country cannot preserve its security by ruling through "weapons and military force."
Musavi's message seems to be an indirect call on workers and teachers to join the Green opposition movement.
